Text: Psalm 92:11-14

“The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.14 They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing” (NKJV)

March is a very exciting time especially for those who live in North America and Canada because this is the month when the winter season ends and spring kicks in. During spring we see a lot of beauty around us from the green grass to the beautiful flowers in the garden. It sure radiates a lot of life and also marks the beginning of a lot of festivities such as weddings, graduations and picnics.

However unlike other trees that look for rain and the sun to thrive the palm tree is an exception. The bible describes the righteous man or woman as a palm tree. To flourish as a Christian in this year and beyond we need to understand some of the characteristics of a palm tree as shown below:

Growing upwards: The palm tree grows upwards only so a Christian is expected to continually grow in Christ and have deeper understanding in the knowledge of God even in this decaying world.

Evergreen Leaves: No matter the season, the palm tree leaves are evergreen and provides shade during hot weather. A Christian is to remain unwavering and consistent all through life’s journey. The live of a Christian remains ever useful because the bible says they will still bring forth fruit in old age. They are not selfish but help to provide support to those they come in contact with or wherever they go.

Flourishing in the Desert: The palm tree thrives and flourishes in the desert. It is not affected by drought. Christians are on a pilgrimage and we are expected to thrive and flourish even in trials and tribulations that come our way.

All the parts of a palm tree such as the bark, the leaves, the fruits are useful so a Christian has a lot of talents and gifts that are useful for the purpose of the kingdom of God.

As you go through the rest of the month and the year remember you are like a palm tree and meant to flourish in every area of your life. Remain blessed.
