Proverbs 4:6-9

He spends much time emphasizing wisdom. He even advises to make her a prize in one’s life. This clearly suggests that wisdom is very important for life. However, that’s not to say that we should put wisdom above holiness. I would like to believe that with wisdom comes holiness. In fact, when we study the life of Solomon we see a lack of holiness later in his life. Perhaps maybe this is why Solomon failed later in his life. He rested upon wisdom while forgetting to hold on to holiness. The author encourages us to forsake evil ways and evil thoughts. That’s one step to walking in holiness and embracing wisdom.

On the other hand, it is possible to be wise but not have understanding. He says wisdom is the first step but with that get understanding, discernment, & comprehension. Sometimes we are so wise we miss the simple things in life. We talk ourselves out of the simple things in life and we don’t understand things that are right in front of us.

May we be willing students of Godly wisdom that embrace understanding and discernment. – Eruore Oboh
